The Southern suburbs of Auckland are the industrial powerhouse of Auckland city, and home to a vast melting pot of cultures from our Tangata whenua, NZ European, Pacific Island, Asia and beyond.

The cultural mix is evident in the local weekend markets (such as Otara and Manurewa) and the Pacific Island style main streets.

Throughout the region, modest suburban dwellings are blended with new subdivisions and older established homes with plenty of urban green spaces, natural bush reserves and geological features of past events and culture such as Mangere Mountain.

Just beyond the suburbs lie the rolling rural foothills of the rugged Hunua Ranges; the largest forest in the Auckland region and home to locally renowned Hunua Falls and several city water catchment dams. The Hunua Ranges offers numerous bush walks through the well established podocarp forests and excellent mountain biking trails.

To the East of the Hunua Ranges is the sheltered white sand beaches of the Pohutukawa coast with safe swimming beaches and quiet fishing spots, and a little further South adjacent to the seaside settlement of Kaiaua (also locally famous for excellent fish and chips) is the seabird coast and Miranda natural thermal pools.

To the South West lies the agricultural town of Pukekohe and the remote Awhitu Peninsula surrounding the Southern end of the Manukau Harbour; also home to the local Glenbrook steel mill which produces high quality steel from magnetite mined from the nearby black sand coastline.
