auckland to waitomo caves
Our day begins bright and early from your accommodation. We head south over the Bombay hills, following the Waikato river before heading west towards the rocky outcrops which signal the subterranean features for which the Waitomo district is famous.
Along the way we stop for refreshments at one of the small country towns, and you are welcome to indulge in our home-baked on-board morning tea picnic (included), or select from the bakery selection of one of the local cafes (not included).
Waitomo Caves offers a range of extraordinary experiences to suit all abilities. The most popular tour (as included in our standard price) will see you drifting on an underground river through a magical twinkling glow worm grotto. This experience takes approximately 45 minutes.
From time to time due to seasonal events the Waitomo caves tour may not operate. In this event we will be upgraded to the alternative Ruakuri Caves tour.
If you are seeking an unforgettable adrenalin rush, then a 'black water rafting' adventure may be just what you're after. This adventure takes approximately 3 hours, additional cost applies and minimum numbers may apply.
Our return journey includes a stop in the nearby town of Otorohanga where you have the option of experiencing the renowned Otorohanga kiwi house where you can view many of our native species in an exceptional protected environment.
Our road trip concludes at your accommodation at around 5pm for the standard tour; or 7pm for the black water rafting experience.
