Just beyond the Northern suburbs of Auckland City are country towns (including Matakana, Warkworth and Puhoi) crammed with local produce & crafts, fine eateries, local vineyards and wine tasting, craft breweries & historic pubs and bursting with artistic local creations. All located within easy reach of idyllic East Coast beaches and within an impressive vineyard region. Just up the road is the Goat Island marine reserve offering a magical diving and snorkelling playground, also with glass bottom boat and kayaking experiences on offer.
A little further North of Warkworth on State Highway 1 is Sheep world which demonstrates of our iconic woolly friends and some very talented sheep dogs.
About 1 1/2 hours drive North of Auckland city is Te Hana Maori village – a recreated traditional Maori village featuring tours with local Tangata whenua and cultural performances and demonstrations and delicious traditional food presented in a stylish contemporary way.
