Auckland is New Zealand’s largest and most populated and multi-cultural city situated on an isthmus between the Manukau and Waitemata harbours and within a volcanic field of more than 50 extinct volcanoes. The central city lies on the edge of the Waitemata Harbour also known as the Hauraki Gulf which is dotted with more than 40 islands, many of which are protected reserves, however several which are accessible by ferry from Auckland city.
