Wild West

Experience the best of Auckland’s iconic ‘Westie’ region beginning with a scenic ascent through our own sub-tropical rainforest, the Waitakere Ranges. We give you the opportunity to try some excellent wines in the renowned West Auckland wine region and enjoy a classic kiwi barbeque lunch prepared by our friendly tour guides. Walk barefoot along a wild west coast black sand beach before being returned to the inner city at the end of an (unforgettable) action packed day.

As we depart Auckland city, we’ll give you a glimpse of a few of the scenic highlights as we ascend into the clouds of Scenic Drive heading towards Aucklands wild west coast. As the name suggests, this meandering road provides numerous photo opportunities and the opportunity to experience the grandeur of our own sub tropical rainforest — the stunning Waitakere Ranges.

The prestigious Arataki visitor centre nestled into the stunning native landscape is our first port of call. Here the history of the Waitakere forest region is detailed in an array of medias.

From here we descend to the West Coast black sand beach of Piha with stunning cliff top views to the Tasman sea along the way. Inland from Piha beach we have the opportunity for a 1 hour bush walk to the picturesque cascading Kite Kite falls – and perhaps a ‘refreshing’ dip in the pool at the base of the falls to truly feel alive! For those who prefer a more relaxing option, we might suggest a stroll along rugged Piha beach, or relax and soak up the warmth of the black sand. Next we rejoin Scenic Drive to continue towards the West Auckland wine region with the opportunity to try some excellent local wines and enjoy a classic kiwi style barbeque also prepared by our multi talented tour crew.

After lunch, we visit the rugged West coast black sand beach of Muriwai. We have a rare opportunity to view the gannet colony between the months of August and March before we return you to your drop off point in central Auckland City.
